[Suggestion] Background/tray icon intergration #1964

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
I'm always frustrated when I can't see in my GUI if signal (ubuntu container) is running in the background in Gnome under 'Background Apps'. It does run, but it makes closing it more annoying and I can not be sure.
Describe the solution you'd like
Be able to show tray icons and/or intergrate the freedesktop background apps portal that for example Gnome uses. So I can see the apps running in the foreground/background.
Describe alternatives you've considered
None.
Additional context
I am unsure wheter tray icons already work well, since I don't use those.
