Issues installing desktop app on Linux Mint

Hi! Thank you for this awesome toolkit!

Unfortunately, I ran into a couple issues while testing it out. Here is my report:

1. AppImage Installation Issues:

   • The AppImage file (demystify-x86_64_74b6e0dad0979f84e1f107760bf1bfc6.AppImage) failed to mount with FUSE errors
   • Error messages included "fuse: memory allocation failed" and "Can't open squashfs image: Bad address"
   • FUSE module was properly installed but not loading (verified with lsmod)
   • System has plenty of available memory (125GB RAM with 99GB available)

2. .deb Package Dependency Issues:

   • Package installation failed with unmet dependencies
   • The package requires "gtk3" and "libwebkit2gtk" dependencies
   • These exact package names might not exist in some Ubuntu/Mint repositories
   • Equivalent packages (libgtk-3-0 and libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37) are already installed

3. CLI and firefox extension both working as expected. Great stuff, and thanks again!

System Information:

• OS: Linux Mint 21.3 Virginia (based on Ubuntu 22.04 jammy)
• Kernel: Linux host 6.8.0-52-generic #53~22.04.1-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Wed Jan 15 19:18:46 UTC 2 x86_64
• Desktop Environment: Cinnamon with GTK 3.24.33
• Window Manager: muffin
• Display Manager: LightDM 1.30.0
• Memory: 125GB RAM

Steps attempted:

• Installing and reinstalling FUSE
• Manual FUSE module loading
• Various dependency installation attempts
• Using apt and dpkg directly

Both Desktop installation files were downloaded from the official GitHub page.

I'm happy to provide additional information or logs if needed.

Hey @digispect-intel , thanks for the report.

I'm not surprised the Linux build isn't working as I had issues with getting it to build. I have a mac, so I can't cross compile to Linux or test it outside of VMs. I setup a GitHub action just to get binaries, but hit many snags with packaging to Linux.

I think this is something I need to pick up with the Wails team. It uses the new alpha v3 version, so it's possible there's a bug or that I've missed something.

Could you try the following? This should work, and knowing the result of this would help.

First, install the wails3 binary https://v3alpha.wails.io/getting-started/installation/

Then clone the repo, npm i, npm run build, cd apps/desktop. You'll now have all deps, and everything built.

Running wails3 dev should open the app in dev mode.

And could you see if wails3 package creates an executable in bin?

Thanks for your help troubleshooting. The issue appears to be version incompatibility - Wails v3 requires Ubuntu 24.04, but I'm still on Linux Mint 21.3 (Ubuntu 22.04).

I was able to:

1. Install wails3 successfully
2. Run demystify desktop app with wails3 dev (though unsuccessful with actual har file formatting)
3. Confirm the binary builds but packaging fails during GTK processing

The wails3 package command consistently fails with error 127 during AppImage generation.
