Patio?

Tumblr Premium offers a Patio feature, with the ability to create multiple columns on a single page of dashboard, tracked tags, notifications, inbox, blogs, basically every page available on tumblr. Since premium pricing is going up, it would be great to have this feature through xkit.

I don't think we're going to provide duplicates of "luxury" features like that. Tumblr needs to get revenue from somewhere, and I'd rather it get however much it can from users who can afford to pay for things like Patio than worse alternatives.

More importantly, I don't think we really have the code to do that! We can hide/remove stuff quite effectively, but adding content that's not currently there would effectively require us to reimplement significant parts of the Tumblr web code — that's what they pay Staff for!

Yeah, for sure. I was definitely kind of skeptical when they raised the price—it's only a revenue gain if the price increase is more than the premium user count decrease resulting from the change*, right?—but I don't have any of the data they have, so I can't say anything about whether it was a smart move or whether it worked! Unfortunate, though, certainly, from the perspective of the code that already exists and gets to be used by fewer people.

*minus the ad revenue from the users that go back to having ads, I guess... but I have to imagine that's a really small number.

I shouldered the price increase... I use a Drafts column in Patio almost exclusively in place of the regular Drafts now. I just wish the "Thumbnails" layout worked for the Queue in the same way as it does for Drafts! I don't know what's different on the backend that it can work for one but not the other. Shortly after they started asking for feedback about it I submitted that as a bug report, and Support replied yep, can reproduce... and removed the choice to use "Thumbnails" for the Queue and I haven't seen it since.
