This issue actually exists with Xnest from Debian jessie (2:1.16.4-1) and Debian stretch (2:1.19.1-4) and also with Xephyr (same versions).

Can you also test #336 with Xnest and Xephyr? Does mate-color-select have the same problem? (It's only in stretch, though, not jessie.)

I found gnome-sudoku to have issues with many GTK styles independent from nxagent, Xephyr and other X. I would not count on it as a reference. It is a nice game, but it color schemes are problematical.

I _think_ this is a problem of the fallback code that get's activated when the X server does not offer some required extensions. Nevertheless, we should give this a low prio. Uli
