Up and Down Bow signs

Hi all,

I've been gratefully using Audiveris for about 2 months and look forward to contribute to this project.

One thing I discovered, almost never worked, is the detection of up/down bow regardless of hwo good the quality of my PDFs was.

Most often the down bow is being detected as the letter "n" and some times the up bow as letter "V".

Why is this the case? Or perhaps am I doing sth wrong?

Sorry for this late answer, I have been away from my pc for the last 3 weeks.

The problem with these up and down indications is simply that they are not handled at all. Nothing in the data model, thus you cannot even insert them manually!

But this is something we could include in the next version. Could you point me to concrete score images, as diverse as possible, so that we could train the symbol classifier?

Good.
But this is just 1 (one) example, where all up signs are identical and all down signs are identical.
I would need about a dozen examples (as diverse as possible)

I had the same need to recognize upbow and downbow markings in violin scores. After spending about a week studying the codebase, I retrained the classifier and implemented this feature. I just came across this discussion thread — @hbitteur, not sure if you’re already working on the same thing, but if not, I’d be happy to submit a pull request.

Great minds think alike! :-)
The feature was introduced in the "development" branch by the commit edfd01e, mostly based on @aha917 examples.
Today, you can pull and build this branch on your own.

The next public release (5.8.x) is planned for mid November.
