Can cosmos be used as Ground Station?

Hi,
I'm new to the space industry and exploring Cosmos, AIT Core, and Prime. I have a few questions on cosmos can you please help?

1. Can cosmos be used as Ground Station + Telemetry + Command Sequencer and Schedular? I'm very interested to know the Ground station part
2. Or Do we need to package with Cosmos with fprime or Cosmos with ACT Core etc.,?
3. Can we send commands directly to the target Satelite Dish/Space systems through the TCP/IP or any other mechanism.

Satellite Ground Systems are Typically Broken into 4 parts:

1. Command and Control (C2) - Knows how to interpret all the data that gets sent to the satellite (commands) and is received from the satellite (telemetry). Provides a user interface for operating the satellite. Typically has a scripting engine to orchestrate things.
2. Mission Planning - Decides what the satellite needs to do and when, to accomplish its mission
3. Ground Terminal - The software and hardware necessary to make a link to the satellite (antennas, and modems, and other hardware)
4. Mission Processing - Processes the mission or science specific data products coming out of the satellite (images or other data)

COSMOS is generally part 1, but has also been used to control the hardware for part 3. For a full satellite mission you will need all 4 parts.

I haven't personally used F Prime, or ACT Core but will definitely look into them.

1. If I understood correctly, I believe I'm looking for C2C and Ground Terminal?
2. From the cosmos if I send a sequence of commands, can those commands be directly processed at the ground station (I'm planning to use AWS Ground station) and vice versa for telemetry?
3. My initial goal is to telemetry viewer, and command sequencing to the satellite, I hope C2C can help with UI and AWS Ground station can take care of the step3 Ground terminal, Is my assumption right?
4. Can you please point me to the resources on how to change C2C to connect to the Ground station etc.,?
   I'm thinking that In my case Mission Planning will be done by the Flight S/W, and down the line will be doing something for Mission Planning.
   In case you have, any recommendations/architecture/ docs available to achieve all 4? could you please share?

You can definitely use COSMOS as the C2 system and interface to AWS Ground Station for the Ground Terminal part. All the details of that are beyond what I can discuss on Github. The AWS guys are very helpful and can provide the details on what you need to do to interface to their system.

@ryanatball I'm exploring Cosmos and un-installed the demo data. Now I'm looking to integrate with the Sample Satelite Ground System.
Could you please help me/re-direct to the right point of contact to get access to the sample site?
Is your team uses a sample satelite for telemetry and Command Sequencing? It would be a great help on my development research project.

@ryanatball I'm referring to a sample satellite/system where actually I can test with the streamed data from the satellite.
as of now, I'm working with demo data, but I would like to generate the kind of real satellite data and stream that to cosmos UI.

OpenSatKit has a builtin satellite simulator. That would probably be higher fidelity than the COSMOS demo, but also much harder to setup.

OpenatKit uses the 42 Dynamic Simulator, https://github.com/ericstoneking/42 connected to a core Flight System (cFS) interface app. If you want simulated data to a ground system you should be able to connect 42 directly to a COSMOS interface without using the cFS. The 42-to-cFS interface app is a socket. OSK uses the default 42 interface data which is a lot. 42 provides tools for users to customize the data packets.

@dmccomas Thanks for the details.
I installed OpensSatKit and found that it uses Cosmos 4x, and I'm looking for Cosmos 5X web UI and this information is very helpful.
I've cosmos 5x up and running with the demo data, I'll explore setting up the 42, once it's ready then how do I plugin into my existing cosmos 5X, Could you please provide any guidance/documentation on connecting Cosmos from 42?

@ryanatball @dmccomas I've created a plugin successfully but when I try to create a gem then I'm getting the below error in windows, I tried different ways to fix my ruby installation. But still, an error exists could you provide any guidance? I'm not sure why it's looking for the ruby path at /usr/.... But I'm using windows and my ruby installation at C://

It's looking there because you're using the Ruby Docker container to build. This was an issue we had a few weeks ago. Please use the master branch on Github which includes this and a ton of other fixes.

Thanks, @jasonatball that did the trick, and was able to install the sample plugin.
Now I'm moving on to integrate with the actual system I'm going to explore the 42 simulators, but looks like not much guidance on setting up the 42.
Anyway, What kind of data format does it expect, and how to the data mapped to the existing UI? any pointers. Any help is appreciated to complete my POC to actually see the data, I still don't know what kind of data is being produced, still exploring it.
BTW, does it store tlm data into the database for a historical view? Please help

But, It would be a great help if you can provide some guidance on what kind of data format I need to feed in for tlm and commands. So that I can write a process/hard code data into my plugin to feed it back to cosmos.
