Right now, the selected icon in the symbols modal has just changed its background color and icon color. But if the icon is not in the first row, the selected symbol will not be visible, unless the modal is open.

Potential solution, have the first symbol of the first row always show the selected icon and have the empty "icon" be at the place of the selected symbol.
