Implementing array index operator

In regard to operator[] the best way I could think of is to convert to n-dim indexes and then back to array index. Is there a better approach @bassoy?

I was talking in the context of mappings, first we would have to map the array index of a subtensor to 2D index of the subtensor and then map those to 2D index of the parent tensor.
