Some people, very new to infrastructure, have a difficult time in the course because of the expected knowledge it has. Those skills are listed, but people don't seem to adhere to "knowing those pre-requirements well" and still get stuck.

How can I help them bridge the knowledge gap?

Current pre-requirements listed on the Udemy homepage include:

  • Understand terminal or command prompt basics.
  • Linux basics like shells, SSH, and package managers.
  • Know the basics of creating a server in the cloud (on any provider).
  • Understand the basics of web and database servers. (how they typically communicate, IPs, ports, etc.)

First, I can add more details to the course pre-requirements, including:

  • Understand YAML files and how they are structured
  • Understand IP networking, including DNS, subnetting, firewalls, and NAT

Second, I can add videos explaining those concepts or somehow help people find more info if they are watching a lecture and don't understand the expected prereqs (e.g. put links to learning DNS resources in a DNS lookup lecture)

This original Q&A below also speaks to how the "building images" lectures aren't as smooth at onboarding you as they could be, and someone "got lost" trying to follow along.
