Project Context
The Apprentice Project (TAP) is a nonprofit working to transform government and low-income schools through holistic, choice-based learning across Visual Arts, Performing Arts, STEM (Coding & Science), and Financial Literacy. As TAP scales, the organization is embedding an AI-first culture to enhance internal productivity, decision-making, and collaboration. This internship project supports that shift.
Problem Statement
TAP seeks to implement AI-powered solutions to optimize internal operations. The problem involves identifying automation opportunities, rapidly prototyping solutions using no-code/low-code and AI tools, and facilitating organization-wide adoption. The goal is to accelerate TAP's transformation into an AI-first nonprofit.
Goals & Mid-Point Milestone
Goals
- Map AI opportunity landscape across verticals: People, Product, Partnerships, and Operations
- Build and test 3–5 functional prototypes using tools such as GPT, LangChain, Zapier, Make, Whisper, or N8N
- Pilot prototypes with respective teams, collect feedback, and iterate
- Create documentation, "how-to" guides, and implementation playbooks for broader adoption
- Explore AI integrations with tools such as Keka (HRMS), Discord, TAP website
Setup/Installation
Setup requirements will depend on chosen tech stack and tools. Contributors should have:
- Python development environment
- Access to AI tools (OpenAI API, LangChain, etc.)
- No-code/low-code platforms (Zapier, Make, N8N)
- Development tools for web applications (Node.js, React if applicable)
- Docker for containerization
Expected Outcome
- Real-world experience solving tech-ops challenges in a fast-paced nonprofit setting
- Exposure to AI tooling and integration in real internal workflows
- Insights into the workings of a mission-driven organization
- Mentorship from experienced leaders at TAP
- Portfolio development via impactful, implemented prototypes
- Certificate on completion; performance-based opportunities for future roles
Acceptance Criteria
- AI Opportunity Map across at least 3 TAP functions
- 3–5 Working Prototypes (e.g., internal bots, dashboards, automations)
- Documentation and How-To guides
- Implementation Playbooks for organization-wide rollout
- Exploratory use case reports for integrations (Keka, Discord, TAP site)
