Clarifying step for calculating cropland into levee areas

Reading your script and have a question about the step referenced above. Why do you combine the LMA areas?
Should I do the same for the probability of failure?

Some LMA areas have multiple discrete polygons that I reclassified into a single LMA (from the centerlines). I joined the LMAs together because there are so many discrete polygons in the cropland dataset that it creates a really large resulting sf object after using st_intersection, e.g., if we have 10 cropland types and 3 Grizzly Area polygons, that's 30 rows vs just 10 if we join the LMAs together. It also helps with the area calculation per area, of which we would need to summarize per LMA anyways.

For the probability of failure, it might be required if we place them all onto the same map...We can do that in that script or is it better to simply re-do the saved levee polygon shape file?

Thank you! This makes sense. We are combining the subdivision polygons within each levee area.
I'll leave the probability of failure as is now. If plotting becomes an issue, we can think of re-doing the saved levee polygon shapefile.
