Authentication middleware for websocket server

Hi everyone.
Has anybody successfully implemented authentication middleware for websocket server? I'm struggling with it without success.
Before middleware's were implemented I had it working the old way.

I tried the following without success:

    authMiddleware.setAuthType(AsyncAuthType::AUTH_DIGEST);
    authMiddleware.setRealm("Thermolink");
    authMiddleware.setUsername(getUsername());
    authMiddleware.setPassword(getPassword());
    authMiddleware.setAuthFailureMessage("Authentication failed");
    authMiddleware.generateHash(); 

    ws.onEvent(onEvent);
    ws.addMiddleware(&authMiddleware);
    server.addHandler(&ws);

    server
    .serveStatic("/", MYFS, "/www/")
    .setCacheControl("max-age=30");
    server.addMiddleware(&authMiddleware);

I would really appreciate some help or guidance regarding this topic. I didn't found any example in the docs concerning ws auth.
