No "inline emoji search" after writing a smiley

To Reproduce

• Write a smiley like ":)" or ":D".
• Press space

The suggestions will now only be emojis, no more words.

The get again word suggestion :

• remove the smiley
• close the keybord and open it again by selecting a word other than the smiley.

Expected behavior

Normal word suggestion works. Like after entering an emoji or normal word.

What you're seeing is inline emoji search, which is triggered by the colon. You can cancel it by pressing the X button. You can also disable it in settings.

Ho ! It works fine when I type ":" + some letter. But here I don't want to search, I just want to enter a smiley. Can we disable the emoji search when it is not directly a letter that follow the ":" ? (I see it is already auto disabled when I press ": ", so hopefully space already disable emoji search.

I still think it is disturbing to add search for :), :D, :p, etc. Maybe we can stop search if we find a smiley.

Or like Telegram, maybe better option : stop search after the first space.

Hmm kind of convinced :D I turned off the emoji search feature because you convinced me that there is no elegant way to support both your space characters and my text-only smileys

For me when we have this kind of problem, it can be interesting to see how others do. I don't know for other messaging apps, but telegram stops emoji search after a space (and I never be annoyed). Do you use other apps (WhatsApp...) and know how they works ?

WhatsApp's multi-word emoji search seems to only work if you type the exact emoji name. It has a dedicated search bar, so no such tradeoff.
