Unable to connect to WiFi from Gamescope Steam session

Attempting to connect to network results in immediate "failed to connect", regardless of if network was already known to NetworkManager. Best lead found is xdg portal and dbus failures found in journal:

dbus: fill_dict_with_properties dbus_interface=fi.w1.wpa_supplicant1.BSS dbus_property=RSN getter failed
dbus: wpa_dbus_get_object_properties: failed to get object properties: (org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Failed) failed to parse RSN IE

Not full message, as I couldn't get this one to trigger again: Failed to activate service 'org.freedesktop.impl.portal.desktop.gtk': timed out

Disconnecting and forgetting networks works fine still.
