Ubuntu kernel can boot

I tried building Ubuntu using the ubuntu package.
The LiveCD build did not boot.
It booted when I built it from debootstrap.
Neither the kernel nor the Panthor driver were the latest versions, but I could install them from the package.

Questing will boot, but the snap application will not work.
Let's enjoy future growth.

After setup is complete, modify /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ubuntu.sources.
Suites: questing -> Suites: questing questing-updates questing-backports.

This script is for Opi5, so please change the u-boot and disk_image parameters.

I have an Orangepi 5 Max and made the respective changes.

Above scripts always fail within the u-boot-section with the following error:

/bin/sh: 1: Syntax error: Unterminated quoted string 1139make: *** [Makefile:1135: .binman_stamp] Error 2

I don't think it's related to what SBC is to be configured as it's the same error with what the most recent action in your own repository failed.

Any idea what's causing this to fail?

Thank you for trying the script.
I'm getting this error too.
If the file u-boot-rockchip.bin is created, you can build the Ubuntu disk image, so ignore it.

Questing is still in development, so it may or may not boot.

For now, i recommend trying it with plucky.

To change from Questing to Plucky, simply change questing to plucky in two places in image-definition.yaml.

Ahh, okay - thanks. Didn't notice that the file is created anyway.

Now that I have successfully built an image (plucky), why doesn't it boot? I've tried with both an M.2 SSD and an SD card. Just nothing happens.

Thanks, with this workaround the OrangePi-5-max is able to boot as well. I can see the LAN port LEDs flashing and it turns up as "ubuntu" on the network.

Video out is still not working, though. The OPi-5-max has two HDMI outputs. One isn't working at all. On the other one a connected display turns on as if it detected a valid signal but it turns off after a few seconds and then on again, then off and so on...

Upgrading the kernel version should make HDMI work,
but it will require additional work such as building the kernel.
It will take about two hours to create the disk image, would you like to try it?

In the meantime I've managed to get some probably meaningful error messages via UART. Don't know if it helps troubleshooting but these are the last 3 lines before it halts. It doesn't seem to be related to HDMI directly.

kernel building version.

When building the kernel, a configuration menu will be displayed, but don't worry about it.
I don't have much hardware knowledge about 5-MAX, so there may be missing kernel configuration parameters. Please add them to overlay/my-add.txt.
I have confirmed that it is possible to boot with 5-PLUS from 6.15.y to 6.17.y.
Firefox did not start in any version.

I was going through the scripts to understand them, using Google AI to be honest. It said that in disk_image.sh the command
mkpart primary fat32 16MiB 128MiB: Creates the first partition. This partition will be used as the EFI System Partition (ESP).
The second partition will take up the rest of the disk space.
The AI said:
Combined effect: This is an unusual and fragile way to set the GUIDs and appears to be in conflict with the parted commands, which already created the partitions and assigned filesystem types. The GUID for the EFI partition is applied to the wrong partition. This could be a flaw in the script.
I checked the [(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EFI_system_partition)] and the GUID matches, and the first partition is formatted in fat32, so this seems to confirm that they are backwards. It doesn't make sense since apparently this works, so can you explain why they are like this? Thanks

Thank you for analyzing the contents of the script.
Your opinion is absolutely correct and right.
If u-boot is the only operating condition, a fat partition is not necessary.
My opi5 and opi5-plus can also be booted via uefi by writing edk2-rk3588 to the spi.
That's why I created a fat partition.
I think we will move to uefi booting in the future.
In fact, the Radxa Orion O6 supports uefi booting.
Please modify the script I created to suit your environment.
