Feature: User Account Deactivation / Deletion

A User has requested via email to have their account deleted.

Perceived Problem
There is currently no in-app functionality for a user to request account deactivation / deletion.

Further Considerations
What are the legal obligations and expectations around finalising the user's request and management of their stored data?

Ideas / Proposed Solution(s)

• Within Settings > Account, provide an option and functionality for deactivation / deletion of a user's account
• Include modal pop-up to confirm the user's decision (prevent user error and beneficial to verify their decision)
• Include second question asking the user to provide optional feedback (free text field for now, which could become more sophisticated in future)
• Once confirmed by the user, display a Journaly farewell statement

I noticed today GitHub's way of dealing with this, which is one of the strategies we discussed, to essentially have a special account that all relational data of a deleted user get's tied to in order to preserve that user's contributions after their account is gone. See screenshot:
