Enhancement Summary

Add an option to the settings to revert the display of volume dials on tracks from dBFS back to percentage. While the newer form of display is useful to many, the older display style was more intuitive to less experienced users and those who prefer using LMMS for simpler projects.

Implementation Details / Mockup

Within the General tab of the Settings menu, add a new option labeled "Use Percentage Volume". When checked, LMMS will use a percentage from 0% to 200% to represent the volume of a track, as opposed to a value from -96 dBFS to 6 dBFS. This would likely necessitate a restart of the program.

The option to use percentages was deliberately removed in #7636.

Volume percentage might appear more approachable to dBFS to users who aren't familiar with the standard, but it's misleading. Percentage is linear, but perceived loudness is logarithmic (and importantly, so is the dB scale!) The existence of the volume percentage mode would prevent new users from familiarizing themselves with essential audio terminology.

0 dbFS is your 100% and -96 dbFS is your 0%. -48 dbFS would be 50% and so on. It could be different as I don't remember exact lowest dbFS value in lmms, but it is pretty easy to understand and use

That isn't how dB works.

50% is -6 dBFS, 25% is -12 dBFS, 12.5% is -18 dBFS, and so on. Decibels are a logarithmic scale, so 0% is actually an infinitely negative level of decibels.

The nice thing is that going down by 10 decibels always sounds about half as loud. If you are doing simple projects, just fiddle with the dB sliders until you get something that "sounds" in balance to you. I promise that you will eventually find it easier to work with, even if it takes a bit.
