Install didn't complete

Hi, I got all the materials and almost was almost ready to get the scoreboard running but the install didn't complete. I got an error message that said "Failed building wheel for Pillow.
Failed to build pillow.
Error: Could not build wheels for Pillow, which is required to install project"

I don't have experience with Python or coding or anything, I'm just going based on the wiki setup for newbies.

Anyone have any advice?

No updates from my end. My knowledge in coding/Python is basically zero. My plan was to try again over the weekend by wiping my SD card to see if it worked itself out but it looks like that isn't going to be the case. There was another thread that I saw about "upcoming pillow depreciations" which I read but don't have the knowledge to turn into a work around.

Before installing, make sure you git pull to make sure you have the latest.
If it fails, could you attach the entire log?
Let's figure out which step exactly is failing and why, then we can see about workarounds or fixes.

note: This error originates from a subprocess, and is likely not a problem wit h pip.

Is there any other info about why that build failed? You could try to run the command from the script manually, it may/may not fail or may/may not provide more of a log to work with. You're working with a stock image of Raspberry Pi OS?

Having this same issue.

I have tried installing multiple times on stock Raspberry Pi images of Bullseye and Bookworm.

I get the same error code, but more specifically, earlier in the log, it shows:
Ignoring setuptools: markers 'python_version >= "3.12"' don't match your environment
I am wondering if that has something to do with the issue as the python versions for Bookworm and Bullseye are 3.11 and 3.9

I have tried the -f force install, and it still does not properly load - it is unable to locate "statsapi"

I "resolved" this for myself, the issue was that I was running on an ancient version of Pi OS, which only has an older version of Python3. Pillows 10.0.1 only supports the newer versions of python.

Couple ways to fix this:

• Upgrade python3 on your OS which is total pain and prob breaks things (a lot of things rely on python versions unfortunately)
• Upgrade your whole OS, which takes forever (for me at least)
• Reflash to a newer PI version and lose everything, but its done quickly.

@watsonlu What Pi Version did you download? I have tried using the newest version of Bookworm from the Raspberry Pi Imager and still gotten the same issue.
