Oplog tailing on sharded mongo

So from what I understand of a old discussion on google groups oplog tailing on a sharded mongo is hard but not impossible.

Has anyone since then tried to get oplog tailing to work on a sharded mongo? I'm having a very hard time finding more information about how to do this.
