As the default supported Python version is 3, we should move to it.
Note: Ubuntu will ship only Python 3 starting from release 12.10.
Problem: we don't know if all libraries that we depend on support Python 3.

That is true. But in this case I think we could benefit from having having a python3 buildbot on travis-CI.
we can also start right away by having a python3 virtualenv
