Since satellite imagery is now readily and rapidly available, this idea was to allow the (near-)interactive generation of climatologies from a time series of imagery. A user would select a bounding box, start/end time, etc:

The application would then retrieve the relevant imagery, convert the pixel values back into data values (some pitfalls here), and generate relevant plots and statistics. Those plots can be interactively explored by showing the source imagery when hovering over the plot:
