Why we're not using the github releases?

The last official release was in October 2020, as we all know. Is there a specific reason we're not using gitHub releases?

I see that the codebase is actively maintained and updated, but without proper tagged releases, it becomes a bit awkward to maintain packaging and version tracking.

Even though there was some small bug fixes and features added to the master branch, version was not updated after 2.0.0.
I think, releases can only be published if there is a version update. And, afaik the NixOS pkg isn't officially maintained.

I have blocked the new version release on issue #427 being implemented.
