Reinstalling MikTex various times

I have tried two ways of using LaTex (TexStudio and VS Code) and ran into a problem when setting up MikTex for TexStudio. After initially installing MikTex and TexStudio and downloading a template from the Stellenbosch CTAN, the template works and updates every time I make a change. When I close TexStudio and then relaunch it, I received an error about something to do with the path of the xelatex.exe -synctex=1 -interaction=nonstopmode %.tex command. I had to uninstall MikTex and reinstall it to a folder which is different than the default location. I installed it to a location within my users local folders and not the C drive program files and the issue was resolved. I had the same issue when trying to install MikTex and TexStudio onto my laptop. I do not know if this is the correct way to resolve the issue.
