Using OpenTelemac 2D (Selafin) Data

Hello OceanParcels community,

I'm currently in a project that looks into the dispersion of microplastic in an estuary. For this I wanted to use high resolution river data from the OpenTelemac model (validated against observations) which produces a 2D Selafin output type file with velocities of the river flow and has coordinates in metrics (x/y).
I was wondering if it was possible to directly implement this type of file with OceanParcels or is it only compatible with netCDF?

Hi @adegroodt, thanks for reaching out and considering to use Parcels! However, I have never come across OpenTelemax or Saladin output files before, so have now idea how to load them into Parcels. Can you open them with xarray? Then, you could use FieldSet.from_xarray_dataset() to convert the DataSet to a FieldSet object
