Status of official flatpak support

The possibility of providing official flatpak support for ProtonVPN has been discussed here:

Is this possibility still under consideration? And if so, any updates regarding the timeline for implementing?

Wondering about this too would wanna get protonmail but dont wanna have to use unofficial packages or switch distributions just because of this.

It would indeed be nice, but unfortunately it's not as easy as it seems. Flatpak has many limitations as the portals frameworks is still very new, which currently does not allow us to add features such as split tunneling (and probably never will given the whole idea of flatpaks and sandboxing).

Yeah it's definitely a tough call, can't add anything atm but being able to provide split tunneling to flatpak is somewhat a horrible UX, mainly because (currently) the ST daemon requires root privileges, and flatpak portals don't allow for it. Once workaround would be that users install the app via flatpak but then have to install the daemon separately which honestly is a pretty bad UX from our POV. We're still looking into it, as we could potentially go towards a flatpak version with limited features due to that, but tbh the long term is to move everything to a daemon and just have clients connected to this daemon, which based on what I wrote previously, you see where it goes. Still, nothing is set in stone as of yet. Also I want to re-emphasize that this is (thankfully) a community driven project by @proletarius101.

imo the advantages outweigh not having split tunneling. Not everyone uses split tunneling, and having flatpak support would be very useful for unsupported distros and security purposes

true also not every app has such limitations why not release those as official versions? protonmail and so on...
