quarto render/preview re-runs cells even if non-execution related yaml options are changed

I noticed that when I edit YAML header options that are unrelated to the code chunks (such as author affiliation), the cache is not used and all code cells are executed.

Is it possible to avoid this?

Yes, the current expected behaviour is any change to any frontmatter or cell options cause a cache invalidation. That's the simplest logic, but we can progressively adjust it where it makes sense to allow/disallow certain keys from affecting it.
