Descartes intends to build on the lab check-in system offered by [CMULab](https://cmulab.quantumstack.xyz). The core difference is that Descartes is provided as a service while CMULab was hosted by individual courses. While Descartes will eventually offer additional features such as office hours queue, participation polls, and grade forecasting, a good first step is a comprehensive lab check-in system that emulates CMULab. This will include a completed authentication and course creation process as well as data portal for instructors.
