Is it possible to use a remote URL to get the PDF and save the annotations + PDF to a remote API

It seems this repo is not being updated from long time but seems to be very useful due to the fact that there is still no free open source PDF viewer with annotations feature. Any plans to release a new version with a pluggable viewer and new features?
It will also be useful if this can be easily plugged in with a UI framework application e.g. Vue or Angular.
