It would be nice if the assignment summary page also had some measure of time spent on the assignment. I like to know if someone completes a 10-question assignment correctly with 1 attempt on each problem and in a total of 2 minutes from submitting the first question to submitting the last question. That often means a very different thing from someone completing the assignment correctly in 1 attempt per problem in a total of an hour. I know the log has everything recorded. Maybe a link to a filtered view of that student's activity surrounding the submission of the problem or all problems in the assignment? I know I can already download a logfile of a single student's activity from the Student Progress page, so perhaps a time-limited version of that linked to from the Assignment Summary?

Brad, you said it's hard to make a time-elapse number meaningful, and as an instructor I get that. Elapsed time anywhere from 30 minutes to 4 or 5 days could be normal for a student doing their own work and managing their time in different ways, but I don't see any good way to explain a total elapsed time of 5 minutes on something that takes most students an hour or more. If it happens on assignment after assignment, I would want to have a conversation with that student about the purpose of assignments and practice and their likelihood of success in the course if they outsource their practice.

I also would find it illuminating to have a link to a filtered view of the logfile containing a single student's activity surrounding the times of submission of problems in an assignment. Maybe starting from earliest problem submitted, going back an hour, ending at the time of the last problem submitted. Maybe they're clicking around different pages or watching videos, maybe they're idle as they work something out on paper or getting distracted on their phone, who knows. I would still find that interesting and a possible research area, and I know the logfile has that info.
