The decision by the SQL Server team proves that they hardly know what they're doing. They hardly know what are the needs and common problems of web service developers, system administrators and other actual professionals of the sort.

Whenever I'm frustrated by a group's decision, I try to remember all of the decisions I was forced to make within constraints that are unknowable to other people, and how many would likely say the same thing about me even though I know it not to be true. It helps to have some empathy for the product team. Yes it's probably frustrating, but their understanding of the topology of most installations was probably driving this. Luckily it's easy to change. 👍
