What happened?

A company called Edgio have gone bankrupt and the azureedge.net CDN will be going away on 15th January 2025.

Microsoft has a replacement CDN for some endpoints:

https://devblogs.microsoft.com/dotnet/critical-dotnet-install-links-are-changing/

https://build5nines.com/retirement-of-azureedge-net-dns-edg-io-business-closure-and-what-you-need-to-know/

dotnet/core#9671

Searching the top 8k Python projects on PyPI, I found some instances of azureedge.net in selenium-4.27.1 at https://pypi.org/project/selenium/

It doesn't look like Microsoft have updated the links at, for example, https://developer.microsoft.com/en-gb/microsoft-edge/tools/webdriver/?cs=2282084340&form=MA13LH yet, but here's a heads-up.

How can we reproduce the issue?

Wait until after the 15th and try and download from the CDN.

@hugovk Do you know the updated links?
https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/tools/webdriver/ is still using msedgedriver.azureedge.net links.

I don't. I think this is happening very suddenly so MS might not have everything in place yet.

Let's ask @Jeffrey-Luszcz from GitHub's OSPO.

I don't think he will have any idea of this. We would need to make a tracking issue on the Edge Developer repo.

MicrosoftEdge/EdgeWebDriver#183 (comment)

Confirming here the azureedge.net CDN servicing of Edge will continue to work, I'm closing this issue.

The Azure CDN azureedget.net is not going away. Edgio is one of the CDN provider behind it that is going away on Jan 15th. We are not using Edgio as the CDN provider; we are using Microsoft CDN (classic) provider instead. We're already tracking the 2027 sunset date for that. More info here.

TLDR: Azure CDN will not get removed.

This issue can be closed as Azure CDN is working fine.
