Description

I am looking for a way to subscribe to request/response events and parse them into the correct HAR format.

Requirements:

• Support for Chrome, Edge, and Firefox.
• Ability to capture full request/response metadata.

Have you considered any alternatives or workarounds?

I have tried:

• Firefox: Used the ff-test-bidi-har-export library.
• Chrome/Edge: Attempted using the Chrome DevTools Protocol (CDP).

Since browsers don't support HAR export via BiDi, this will need to be implemented by capturing network requests and building the HAR file. However, network request/response capture via BiDi isn't yet fully implemented in all Selenium language bindings. You may be able to accomplish this yourself now, depending on which language you are using.

I am planning on implementing HAR generation in Python once the necessary BiDi functionality is complete. I'm not sure if it will be appropriate to include this as part of Selenium or if it should be an external package. I'm also not sure if/how other language bindings will do the same.

I see, would be nice if its external package like the ff-test-bidi-har-export lib. I have tried this library to record requests and responses, then export them to the HAR format (but it only support Firefox, and just experimental).

Do you have any experience with support exporting HAR files on Chrome, Edge, or Firefox without using Selenium BiDi or a proxy?

Chrome/Edge allow you to do it manually from inside the browser's Dev Tools, but I'm not sure if that's available as a CDP command (I don't think it is). Other than that, you would either need to do it via an external network traffic capture tool or proxy... or using a browser plugin/extension.

In my case, i have to export the logs automatically without using the browser's DevTools manually or using a proxy (as proxies add request/response latency).
After researching, I have decided on a hybrid approach: utilizing CDP for Chromium-based browsers (via selenium-har-util) and WebDriver BiDi for Firefox (via bidi-har-export). I will either stick with these libraries or implement a custom exporter myself
