Gradient mask to blend 2 images

Is there a way to blend 2 images together via a gradient mask? E.g. 1 image opacity "fades" to another image using gradient.

I was trying to use a LinearGradientBrush with Color.Transparent but it doesn't work like I want (example what I did is in this issue: #1040).
