Component Breakdown
@ - Suppresses echoing the command to stdout (keeps output clean)

set -o pipefail - Bash option that changes how pipeline exit codes work:

Without pipefail: command1 | command2 returns the exit code of command2 (the last command)
If make fails but grep succeeds, the pipeline would return success (0) - bad!
With pipefail: Returns the exit code of the first command that fails
If make fails, the whole pipeline fails - good!
2>&1 - Redirects stderr to stdout so both streams go through the grep filter

Compiler notes/warnings/errors go to stderr by default
We need to merge them into stdout to filter them
| grep -v "..." - Pipe through grep with inverted match

-v means "exclude lines matching this pattern"
Only filters out the specific GDAL ABI note
|| test $? -eq 141 - Handles a special case:

Exit code 141 = SIGPIPE (broken pipe signal)
Happens when make produces output faster than grep can consume it
This is normal and shouldn't fail the build
In the Makefile, this is written as $$? (doubled for make escaping), but shows as $? when executed
Why This Works
The build will:

✓ Fail if make fails (preserves error detection)
✓ Filter out the annoying note (reduces clutter)
✓ Show all other diagnostics (keeps warnings/errors visible)
✓ Handle SIGPIPE gracefully (won't fail on large output)
