Description
i think the HoneyComb LX2 is a great idea,
but lacks a Workstation / Desktop version...
SFP+ should be lowered to 2x or 1x instead of 4x
add 2 or 4 Thunderbolt3/4 ports Alpine Ridge or Titan,
PCIe v4
Basic:
1x SPF+
1x TB3
PCIe v3
Basic Medium:
1x SPF+
2x TB3

or instead of 4x TB3/4
more dual slot PCIe v4 x8
4x dual slot PCIe x8 for multi-gpu applications.
CPU Heatsink Mounting Holes compatible with other chipset system,
opens a whole New world of 3rd party cooling.
Watercooling and LN2 for overclocker YouTubers = Publcity.
More focused in 3rd party conectivity / periperials / gpu,
than Network.
99.999% of the people in the World will never use 4x SFP+ and 100G of the ClearFog CX LX2
Only 80k people.
Having 2x SPF+ is overkill for most people.
maybe using ifenslave to combine the speed.
but 1x SFP28 25G 3125MB/s would be better.
most people in the Desktop world are entering the 10G era, abandoning the 1G era.
while Servers are abandoning the 10G era,
there is a lot of SPF+ modules available that makes it atractive for Desktop.
Having 100G = 12500MB/s makes "No sense" with PCIe v3 M.2 with 2500MB/s or SATA-III 6Gbps 500MB/s.
Does Not even make sense with PCIe v4 M.2 7000MB/s
Maybe a RamDrive, DDR4 could hit those speeds,
Using the HoneyComb LX2 just as a Router? MikroTik competitor?
Other purpose is Not clear to me.
Some Servers require more than 1TB of RAM.
Millions of people that have a Raspberry Pi 4B want a Super Raspberry Pi on Steroids.
that is the HoneyComb LX2
but most are hoping Risc-V will be the answer.
IF sending video over SPF+ could be possible, 4x SFP+ could make sense.
a SPF+ to Thunderbolt adapter.
SFP+ to PCIe
SFP+ to PCIx
SFP+ to ExpressCard
SFP+ to PCMCIA
SFP+ to eSATA
SFP+ to Firewire,
SFP+ to SCSI 320
etc...
Like an Optical Thunderbolt.
4x SFP+ makes No sense to me.
1x does, maybe 2, but 4x ? Nope.
