How to add custom color schemes that will change based on light/dark mode

Is there anyway to add/append a custom background color scheme (--color-surface-red and --color-surface-yellow) that will adjust automagically for dark and light modes?

You can set your own primary color based on HSL values. If you want to apply the color scheme to only one theme, you can use the :root.skin-citizen-light and :root.skin-citizen-dark, I guess.
