different background colors in auto mode and light mode

I configured

:root.skin-citizen-light {
    --color-surface-0: white;

which is working as expected, namely white background of the wiki pages

However, when I select auto mode (to have the auto-swap to dark mode), the white background changes to a greyish background (hex f2f4f8). Is there any way to configure the auto mode to respect the settings for the light mode?
