Suggest a good update system

Currently, PhraseNuX relies on a update system in which the application checks the content of a particular website in order to get the latest version. If the latest version if not the current version installed, the applications asks the user to proceed with the update.

But.. this isn't a efficient one, could someone suggest a better system
