Get rid of the transducers part, it is too much for a 2-hour workshop
More (non-trivial) examples of state-machines and work them out on the board
Something like "Strings of length 2" "Strings of length no more than/at least 2", etc. could
help people understand that the regularity of a language does not always depend on the
arrangement of the input symbols
Regular expressions part needs to be a *lot* better:
People were confused as to the connection between regular languages and DFAs
Explain how concatenation works properly
Explain the regular operators better; draw explicit connections between regular operations and
the DFAs that recognize them (this might need a section on NDFAs)
More examples of regular expressions, with the regular languages defined by said expressions before jumping into regexr; ideally with accompanying graphics.
Excercises:
Clarify question 2. People assumed it meant check *only* if there were an even number of zeros;
clarify that both the number of ones and the number of zeros should be even.
Need some non-trivial machines; currently question 4 basically represents the machine being asked to be defined in question 1.
Maybe remove question 3?
Have questions that ask to translate between DFA and regular expressions
