Where can I find the roadmap?

In #88 (comment) a roadmap was mentioned. Is this roadmap public and if so where can I find it?

The "roadmap" I referred to is pretty much a long prioritized TODO list I have of things I'd like Gatus and/or gatus.io to support.

Ultimately, my end goal is to be able to work on open source projects full time, so the roadmap is heavily weighted on what I think is likely to attract paid customers for gatus.io.

For full transparency, I know it's not what most users of open source want to hear, but the bottom line is that open source is very time consuming and not financially rewarding. There are thousands of companies that use Gatus, dozens of which are from fortune 500, but big companies don't donate, they don't contribute, but they're not shy about asking for help via email. It's open source and I'm a big advocate of open source, so it's fair game, but I can't pay my bills or achieve my goals with just goodwill, so I chose to prioritize features in a way that makes me more likely to achieve my goals.

I'm not one to overshare, but I've noticed your increased activity in the repository, so I chose to give you the full picture to help you better understand some of my reasoning for prioritizing some feature requests over others.

Thank you for the detailed reply, I appreciate it! I really hope you will make your dream come true to develop open source full time. Gatus is an awesome project, the UI design look very nice and the code base seems to be solid and relatively easy to understand and navigate... as far as I can tell with my experience so far.

I asked about the roadmap because I really love the project and I'm interested in what is yet to come as I would like to learn even more about the project which is most rewarding when doing it alongside working on resolving issues or implementing features that matter to the future of the project... be it for personal or business use, doesn't matter to me as long as it will improve the project overall.

I have been passively searching for a suitable open source project for quite a while now. One I'm actively interested in where I could hopefully have a positive impact utilizing the professional and personal IT experience I have gained since I started actively coding a little over 3 years ago and I have the feeling to have found it with this project.

Larger and more frequent open source contributions are new territory for me and I'm happy to have already found some opportunities to contribute to gatus in a meaningful way. And I already learned a lot doing it!

Do some points of the TODO list you also translate to issues in the repo and if so is their priority marked in any way?

Their priorities are not marked in any way, and I did go through a huge chunk of the list during my paternity leave (which ended a few weeks ago), in fact, I'd say most of what I wanted to get done was completed during my time off work, and now I'm more in a fix/consolidate/stabilize phase, as given the sheer amount of features implemented in the past few months, there's bound to be a couple bugs here and there, as you've already found.

For instance, redoing the UI was something very high on the list, and up until a few months ago, this is what the UI looked like:

Another big feature I managed to finish right before I returned to work was suites, which is very new, very much so in alpha, and also a much more powerful feature than endpoints. With more maturity, it will interest a lot of people. It's basically chained endpoints with a shared context, giving users the ability to test an application or even an entire system end to end.

To be transparent with you, as I'm a new father and adjusting to dealing with that and working, I expect to not be as invested in implementing new big features myself on Gatus, I'll likely just be rebuilding a new roadmap when I think of something and create issues out of the new items when I have time, but right now, juggling everything at the same time is a little exhausting, so I'm more in maintenance mode.

If you're personally looking for something to work on, I'd say the lowest hanging fruits are always alerting providers.
In the best of worlds, Gatus would support every providers under the sun, and I spent a considerable amount of time making adding alerting providers fairly trivial - if you have a look at https://github.com/TwiN/gatus/tree/master/alerting/provider, you'll see the pattern.

That being said, don't ever feel pressure to work on anything, under any timeline. Working on open source can feel very overwhelming at times, and I would much rather have people contribute at their own pace than feel obligated to spend their time off working on something they don't want to.
