Is writing a range to a file supported?

Could not find this on the road map and it didn't seem to work, so wondering if it is supported but I missed it?

Very handy for writing a block of code to a tmp file, e.g.

(moveto starting line)
ma
(moveto ending line)
:'a,.w /tmp/t
