Concept: MeshCentral Community Meetings

As some of you may already know I'd like to help building the MeshCentral community.

This means also discussing early how to build the community. I already mentioned during the meetings that I like to write concepts. This is to express my ideas, to structure ideas and discussions and to convince people of course. The goal is that the volunteers who want to build the community, can discuss and develop a vision together.

At the moment this concerns 2 concepts:

1. Community Meetings (the github discussion at hand)

• because these are the main events at the moment, so they influence everything
• because Marc asked today how to improve community
• because I already wanted to talk about it last time ;-)

2. Community Module

• an idea I mentioned at the december meeting
• something that got simplified as telemetry, because I couldn't explain it better in short time which leads to, uhm, Community Meetings concept ;-)
• a concept I promised today for february meeting (could get difficult because of working on 1) and because 1) is already much to read and discuss)
• a concept which focuses more on developers

Because both concepts are relativley much to read (well, they need to be specific to be helpful) I decided to publish early. So here is about 25% of the Community Meetings concept (chapter 1 of 4 finished).

Because of time I can't participate in deep discussions and I'd like to focus on finishing the concept. So if you like to already discuss it please don't get into detail: mention big problems instead of small problems, then I will try to already incorporate them.

Please notice:
The solutions are labeled at possible solutions. So there may be other solutions or one can work on some of them instead of all of them. Of course I'm convinced of all of them but don't get upset. To my readers it's mainly to give (specific) ideas. Also usally I write something like this in an incremental process by collaborating with others (e.g. a collaboration pad or wiki), so I get much more earlier feedback and can adjust. Also English is not my native language, so feel free to suggest better wordings.

Regarding the new points 2i) and 2j) I'm not sure if I have understood the architecture correctly or if I muddled something up. But this shows, that these points are valid. So please feel free to teach me and/or correct these 2 points. Many thanks.

Announcement:
I will publish chapter 2 of the concept in about 48 hours. Be warned, again this won't be short. So finish binge watching the "38C3" presentations or reading "Barbarians Led by Bill Gates" in time, so you all will have free time to read the chapter. I think it will be especially interesting for some members, because chapter II is (as you all know) about actually "Getting members to visit the meetings". :-D

@K10Adventures You're too early ;-)

Changing the "logo" is at the moment solely my personal suggestion and it's part of a larger strategy, how, when and why to change the logo. So there is no decision to actually change the logo and if there will be one, it will only be decided in months. If you like to let your creativity flow free, I can discuss it with you, but:

• in a new discussion thread ;-) (I can open one, if you don't know how)
• I would suggest to post images as attachments, instead of inline, because it makes it hard to read the actual postings
• if you have read my chapter, be warned, that I have other opinions than you about the logo ;-)
• note: I liked the one with the mesh in the background most regarding the idea
• note to myself: lobby for some kind of cute spider as a logo / mascot (stolen from K10Adventures mesh idea)

Just skimmed over the document, kudos for investing time and energy. I appreciate and agree with most of your points.

I would rather call this a MC strategy paper and think that this might create the traction we need and also give us a chance to ensure funding a core development through sponsors or users.

Thanks a lot. I'm happy if anything of the paper helps. Yes, it got somewhat of a MC strategy, because I noticed that the main point "Community Meetings" is based on the "rebirth" of MC, so chapter I) got longer than expected. Chapter II) will be directly concerning the meetings.

I myself don't know yet, what it will look like, when all 4/5 chapters are finished, but I'm sure it will take months or longer (and several meetings) to create the traction :-)
