Is it possible to edit (or add an editor) the 'config.json' file through Mesh?

I don't know if there are better ways to edit the config.json file, but I take a backup, edit the config.json file, re-insert the file into the backup and restore the backup over the top.

Our MeshCentral setup in on a Linux VM that is CLI only and a real pain to connect to/modify.

I wondered, if there isn't an editor built into the Mesh web console, is it possible to add one (link from within 'show server config') and maybe have a built in Json parsing to reduce user errors?

this has already been asked for here #1845
its something i looked into last year but the schema file we have is very advanced for most forms!
the best we could do is maybe try integrate something like a vscode terminal and then load the schema
but this would take time to implement

the best thing i can suggest is use https://jsonlint.com/ to format your json and make sure its readable
then you can use https://jsoneditoronline.org/ to load your json file and edit it :)

Would you like to talk about this? Usually you connect by SSH client and edit the config per shell editor.

• SSH: Can be real easy, e.g. "Putty" SSH Client and authentication via SSH key.
• Editor: You can use the clipboard to copy the whole config into your preferred local Desktop app and then copy it back into the editor in the remote shell. For example "Joe" is an easy editor on the shell.

select your config.json file
then click load,
you can then use CTRL+SPACE to get autoSuggestions,
and it should also give descriptions etc
and if you make a mistake it will show you a triangle hehe

also you can click verify JSON with AJV and it will verify whats wrong

And yep that's correct!
u can't use null in config.json,
u would use need to remove the value instead
