in original bosca, you could use WASD instead of arrow keys to do the same things(because it was targeted towards gamers as intuitive)
its not a thing in blue.

also, in original bosca, when you created a new block of music it would scroll down all the way on the blocks menu (which you forgot to add to blue)

also also please add scroll bars to things because the scrolling is so slow, especially with that acceleration thing

its not a thing in blue.

This is a conscious choice, since these keys may be used for other actions in the future. The input scheme in general is not designed around resting your hand on WASD like it's an FPS, so I believe there is no usability loss here. You use it pretty much like any other creative software.

I assume you mean patterns and the pattern list, correct? If so, I agree, we should bring the newly created one into view. Same with the instruments.

Just to be clear, is the progressive acceleration somehow making it slow for you to scroll to the end? It ramps up after a few times and stays consistent. So when scrolling until the very end the difference is pretty negligeable from if it was going at full speed immediately. I must mention that without progressive acceleration the top speed would be much lower, otherwise the scrolling would just be unusable, too eager.

And I agree that Bosca isn't very friendly for large compositions. I honestly don't know how people manage hundreds of patterns in it. I guess people just don't touch the pattern list and go off of the grid directly, copying and cloning as they do. To that end I think the pattern list just needs a rework to make it more manageable somehow.

Scrollbars are a natural suggestion. I am not sure how well they'd fit into the whole aesthetic and feel of Bosca though. In the meantime, we can add more hotkeys for faster scrolling, like utilizing Home/End to immediately go to start and end, and Page Up/Down to scroll whole "pages", rather than just a column at a time.

ive easily used bosca ceol for like 100 hours and the thing that annoys me the most (even before needing to have your cursor on the very thin timeline to paste a timeline segment) is that the acceleration feels very slow even if it is faster than the original (in the original you could hold D and dpadRight to move faster)

I am not sure how well they'd fit into the whole aesthetic

also i figured that propt boxes would be an elegant solution to changing the numbers and skipping through lists so i spent an hour making a poorly edited video demonstrating how it would work

edit; hey i found a prompt box in the software, which means i technically didnt need to design my own but i guess ive done it now (also i think mine looks cooler)

I agree that the timeline management is not the best, although this has always been the case. Just not something addressed by Blue yet.

You can still use arrow keys for this, and it moves considerably faster in Blue.

Also, let me briefly explain the need for acceleration here. Holding down the button is an obvious intent to scroll for a bit of distance and not just a few bars. At the same time, some people (either through inexperience with computer software or due to motor disabilities) can be slow to release the button when all they intend to do is tap. Adding an acceleration helps catch those cases where the first few steps in scrolling are slow, but the rest of the scrolling is fast.

Acceleration helps with accessibility, and it doesn't get in the way of quickly tapping to move a few bars in one direction. It only slightly inconveniences those who want to scroll far, but I believe a significantly quicker pace of the scrolling in Blue more than compensates for that. Blue also features labels in the timeline to give bars numbers, and an actual timeline with projected song time, which all visibly reflect the speed of scrolling, even if bars are empty. And if bars aren't empty, patterns flashing before your eyes should be a good indicator too. So I'm not sure there is much more I can do to sell the feeling of quick scrolling.

i guess i am overreacting abit with it but maybie you could put a checkbox in the app settings bit under the advanced tab to make it faster

in the software it looks like the way the scroll is indexed is by changing a single value when you scroll, in the video i showed how you could use a text box to change such a value. i dont have any coding experience at all but i still feel like this is how it wouldve been made, i dont think you watched it so i made this part a gif so you dont have to download anything

Thanks, I have watched it. But implementing a "Jump to" feature is a different matter from understanding why a scroll that is multiple times faster than in the original Bosca feels slow to you 🙃 Which is why I was asking for your feedback on what makes it feel faster or slower for you specifically.

A "Jump to" feature is still a good idea, though.

i think its the expectation of the movement that annoys me the most;
since i had already used bosca ceol for ages, when i found this new verson the scrolling didnt feel as immideate as in the original.
when creating new patterns i often find myself scrolling 2 or 3 spaces at a time to keep my work infront of me, and the acceleration is just slow enough for me to react and let go let go of the button confused for me to just press it again.
it isnt a huge issue, just a little annoying
