using a custom domain

This might not be your area of expertise or even the platform for asking this but maybe you can point me to some answers. If not, that is ok. I'll keep reading

I currently have my academicpages site in a repo called username.github.io. If i move it to another repo say "onlineResume" then the site will publish on username.github.io/onlineResume. I have a custom domain name (myname.com) that i want to use for my academicpages site

Is it as simple as setting up CNAME and pointing username.github.io/onlineResume to myname.com

The reason am thinking of doing this; after reading on GitHub, if i leave academicpages where it is and i set up this custom domain all of my packages will also use this myname.com. I dont want that. I want all of my packages to use username.github.io and only my academicpages site to use myname.com.

There's a couple people that use Academic Pages with a custom domain. It should be matter of configuring it for GitHub Pages as indicated in those directions, and then making sure the url in _config.yml is set to the correct domain.
