Describe the Issue

I'm unable to add / remove or delete any chores. Nothing is logged but I receive the error below:

None related to kidschores observed

Additional Context

Chores can still be completed, approved, etc. via the dashboard.

Can you try to update to version 0.3.1, restart HA and try again?

I'm a bit confused as I see that 0.3.1 is available in github and HACS. However, I was not prompted to update. I re-downloaded via HACS and got prompted for a restart; however, on the config page, it still indicates 0.3.0. Is there a migration or something I am missing to bump the version?

FWIW I just started playing with this last week and it looks like 0.3.1 has been out since March?

I tried logging again and was able to produce this error:

Got the same issue when trying to edit a chore. I'm also on v0.3.1. See my fix below. NOTE: This fix still doesn't allow me to delete my no named chore (which I think is created by the integration somehow), but I get full functionality back.

What happened?
Somehow, I got a chore named "name": "" (aka nothing).

Here is how I fixed it so I could at least get functionality back:
Open options_flow.py and change line 203-222 to:

entity_names = []
for data in entity_dict.values():
    if isinstance(data, dict) and "name" in data:
        entity_names.append(data["name"])
    else:
        entity_names.append("Unknown Entity")
    if user_input is not None:
        selected_name = _ensure_str(user_input["entity_name"])
        internal_id = next(

                eid
                for eid, data in entity_dict.items()
                if data.get("name") == selected_name
            ),
            None,
        )
        if not internal_id:
            LOGGER.error("Selected entity '%s' not found", selected_name)
            return self.async_abort(reason="invalid_entity")

Within the same file navigate to line 932-933 and replace:

            if any(

                data["name"] == new_name and eid != internal_id

                for eid, data in chores_dict.items()

            ):

WITH

if any(
    "name" in data and data["name"] == new_name and eid != internal_id
    for eid, data in chores_dict.items()
):

What it does.
When this finds an invalid name, like nothing, it gives it the name "Unknown Entity" instead of failing AND will return None if the "name" key doesn't exist.

Thanks @disquisedsquare, that worked for me. I also now have an Unknown Entity which can't be deleted or edited, but all my other functionality is restored.

I had a similar issue, and when I removed the entity from .storage/kidschores_data when the integration was disabled, then restarted the docker container, the entity was brought back. I did similarly to @disquisedsquare and modified options_flow.py:206

From:
entity_names = [data.get("name") for data in entity_dict.values()]

To:
entity_names = [data.get("name") for data in entity_dict.values() if "name" in data]

This removes anything without a name from the drop-downs so you can't edit them, but it appears to be generated, so it doesn't really matter.

i have tried the change of @disquisedsquare but then it doesn't work at all.

if i do the change of @drakebridgewater then it does allow me to get the drop down list of the edit chore model. but if i then want to select any of the chores it still fails.

i would like it if i don't have to restart the whole thing from scratch.

so yeah, i deleted kids chores and added again. it was annoying but i couldn't wait for a fix. and non of the previous mentioned fixes worked for me
