What version should we use?

I am confused whether I should use the Beta version on the Canary version.
On one hand the beta version is what I get when just using "npm install"
On the other hand canary version has the most downloads in npm (and also in several issues related to css the comments recommended using Canaray).
On third hand in latest canary (currently 49) react dep is still 17 and not 18..

So what would be the best version to use in order to be ready for the coming official release?
