Global settings -> max radius not working

Hi,
I've just found Bermuda and I'm really enjoying it. It was suprisingly easy to set up and I've got it positioning my iPhone pretty well however, when trying to fine tune rooms using the max radius setting I am finding it has no effect. I have reduced it down to 2m and my device is showing 10 metres from the nearest proxy however it is still showing as in that proxy's area.

It may be that I am misunderstanding this feature however I was expecting it to show as 'unknown' or away or similar when all proxy's are over that max radius.

I am using Private BLE Device to pull in my iPhone IRK. I also have an Android phone that I am using for testing that is running usinfg the companion app to broadcast. This is having the same issues.

Hi @mannotfood - glad you're enjoying Bermuda and thanks for the feedback!

Yes the max_radius setting only applies to the device_tracker (home/away) sensor, and does not play any part in the area detection. This is, as you have discovered, a little confusing :-)

Currently there is no direct control over the allowed radius for detection in each area (it is a simple "Voronoi diagram", if that makes any sense).

The closest thing to a workaround at present is to tweak the "per scanner rssi_offset" values. This lets you effectively increase or decrease the "sensitivity" of each proxy so you can (indirectly) affect their relative detection radius.

There is a feature request for this to be changed, which is being tracked at #421 - I'll mark this issue as a duplicate of that one - please feel free to subscribe to that issue to keep up to date on any developments and provide further feedback.

The max_radius, at least per the hints in the UI, is meant to affect area detection. I suspect that I might have changed my mind about what it was for over time, and might have ended up breaking it when doing some refactoring. I'll look into it.

Thanks for your really quick reply. I will try the scanner rssi offset. I have it set up so that I show as home - (area) unless there’s no area then it should just be home. With it this way I don’t have to appear away when I’m not in a room. Using the max radius or rssi offset I should be able to get it to say when I’m in my living room but when I’m in the kitchen that currently has no scanner I’ll note show as living room still or garage or whatever, that’s the dream!

I can confirm this is not working - for neither area or device tracker. With one scanner, I set my radius to 4m, but even if I’m 30+ meters away, it shows me as in the scanner’s area and home.
