Found it -- it looks like it's just the unnamed Lucent license in some of the files.

I had trouble figuring out the license too, which makes me hesitate to use this package - could the maintainers please be more explicit about the license?

The LICENSE file contains the BSD 3 Clause text. However, the source files all seem to contain the SMLNJ license text, which is a bit confusing. Can you provide a second LICENSE file with the SMLNJ license text, or relicense all of the source files as BSD-3-Clause? The SMLNJ license requires that "this permission notice" be included in all documentation, which would be a lot easier if it was available in a ready-made file.
