Doc: make transparent how this repo is beeing generated out of the GNU source

I am currently looking into having a mirror of the gsl source code. GNU Savannah's availability is very problematic. Transparency over how this repo is constructed would be helpful in choosing it for the mirror, as we could benefit from the CMake configuration to ensure a smooth and reliable build process.
